SUNDAY SCHOOL

At Knox Presbyterian Church, our Sunday School strives to bring the message of God's love and Christ's teachings to children and youth. We help children discover, develop and rely on their relationship with God. Sunday School at Knox endeavors to encourage each age group along their faith journey. Summer Sunday School meets at 9 & 10:30 a.m. every Sunday during the summer except July 3.  Two Classes: Sandbox Set (age 3-K) and Playground Pack (Grades 1-5).  Read about the latest news for Sunday School here. Register for Summer Sunday School here.

Preschoolers are full of wonder and open to discovery. They also have a need for security. They can and need to understand the depth of God's love for them.

Grade School Children are beginning their self-discovery. They are working out their connection to others and their world. They need to discover God's faithfulness, steadfastness and forgiveness and to understand their own relationship with God. Towards this end, every September, the Children’s Ministries Council presents a bible to our 3rd grade students. On the Sunday when the bibles are presented, the Children’s Ministries Council holds an event after the 10:30 service for 3rd through 5th graders and their families called “Learn How to Use Your Bible” where we learn bible skills and background.

Middle School Youth can understand God as a companion who goes through life with them. They need to be encouraged in the development of their values and commitment to their faith.

During the school year, Knox has Sunday School classes for children from 3 years old through Middle School during both Sunday morning worship services at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Children are welcome in our worship services! Childcare will be available during both morning services for children entering Kindergarten in the Fall and younger.

8th grade youth are welcome in the Middle School Sunday School classes. Our Confirmation program is for 8th grade youth. Click here for more information on Knox’s Confirmation Program.

The Sunday morning Middle School class is not a confirmation class, but a place for 8th graders should they want a typical Sunday School class on Sunday mornings.

During the summer, Sunday School continues for 3 years old through 5th grade during both Sunday morning worship services at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. We hold two classes, each for a broad range of ages. The younger class is for 3 year olds through children entering Kindergarten in September. The older class is for children entering 1st through 5th grade. Parents take turns leading these classes throughout the summer.

Worshipping With Your Children

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." Luke 18:16 (NIV)

Welcome to worship at Knox Presbyterian Church! We affirm that children are important members of our worshipping community and should feel that they belong to the household of faith.

Your family is important here!

Growing up isn't easy in any family, but in God's family, especially, it is well worth the effort!

We are all children of God. Children have gifts to share with older members of the worshipping community, and in turn, older members have much to share with our younger members. We welcome everyone's presence!

Children participate in the worship services as:
  • acolytes
  • scripture readers
  • dancers
  • providing special music as individuals and as part of our Children’s Choirs

A Few Words about the Sacraments

Baptism is a sign of God's promises, assuring us of God's love and of our belonging to Him. The water symbolizes forgiveness, new birth, and participation in Christ's death and resurrection. It incorporates us into the community of the Church and the work of the Holy Spirit. Children of believing parents are included in God's covenant and accepted into the community of faith through their baptism.

Communion
is the joyful feast of the people of God. All baptized Christians are invited to the table. At Knox, Communion is offered the first Sunday of each month and on special liturgical dates. This invitation includes children of all ages, although the time at which a child first takes communion is a family decision. At Knox, an elaborate understanding of the meaning of the Sacrament of Communion is not a prerequisite to partaking of it. We feel it is important to let children know that God loves them, and that they are members of God’s family. They are welcome at the family table!

Additionally, "Touch the Water, Taste the Bread" is an afternoon workshop for families to learn about Baptism and Communion.  This event is offered once a year by the Children’s Ministries Council.
